Interactive Workplace Training
Microlearning And Scenario Based Redesign
Instructional Problem
The original training plan was a network of documents with no guided flow or progress tracking. Participants had to navigate a large volume of safety and logistics content making retention and application difficult. A solution was needed to help learners engage with the material, retain essential information, and apply it confidently in their daily work.
Solution
In collaboration with the administrative team, I used the SAM model to transform resources into a single Articulate Storyline module built with microlearning principles. The course features guided navigation using states and layers to show progress and completion cues. Realistic scenarios presented safety and operational decisions with immediate feedback, while variables tracked first-try and retry attempts. Embedded PDFs, videos, slides, and forms opened inside the module as web objects so learners stayed in one environment. Delivered through the LMS, it allowed learners to start, pause, resume, and track completion.
Impact
Stakeholders report stronger learner engagement with the interactive format and greater confidence in applying procedures on the job. The success of the project has driven a decision to expand this design approach to all organizational training and to begin development of a dedicated training LMS.
